Sport Utility Vehicles: Bringing Families to the Great Outdoors
America's backyard is a large playground for recreational enthusiasts who enjoy camping, biking, boating, RVing, horseback riding, rafting, four-wheel driving or simply relaxing with family and friends. SUVs and other light duty trucks give families the freedom to roam America's great parkways and recreational sites to enjoy such outdoor activities that contribute to healthier, happier lives. Ensuring that you are able to buy and own SUVs that enable you and your family to enjoy the great outdoors is the reason SUVOA was founded and it remains our core mission.
SUVs: For The Health of It!
SUVs are not only a means of safe and reliable transportation to work, Little League games or the grocery store, but an important catalyst for outdoor exercise and recreational activities. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) physical inactivity levels in the United States are worrisome. Only 30-40 percent of Americans engage in regular, sustained exercise, while another 30 percent are completely inactive. According to the U.S. Surgeon General's Report on Physical Activity in America, changes in our lifestyle and communities have played the greatest role in the decline of activity levels among Americans. Variables believed to negatively influence the decision not to exercise includes a lack of urban exercise/recreational facilities, sidewalks, bike lanes, nearby parks and hiking/biking trails.
SUVs provide the durability, cargo space, versatility, safety and towing capabilities necessary to exercise and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Time after time, families and friends use SUVs and light weight trucks to wander off the paved road of civilization to enjoy a star-studded night in the woods, camping, hiking, biking boating, swimming and a host of other family-friendly pursuits. SUVs can access a variety of recreational sites that allows for healthy exercise activities.

SUVs: A Key Ingredient for Work Productivity and Recreational Fun!
Whether it's hauling construction materials or towing a recreational boat, SUVs provide the necessary power needed to tow equipment that few passenger car models have. Simply put, without SUVs and other utility vehicles - like pickup trucks, Americans would find it hard to do many of the day-to-day household tasks that aires - such as hauling plants and landscaping materials, bringing wall board and other large supplies home, moving kids to and from college and the like. And that's not to mention the myriad tasks that SUVs and pickups do at the worksite - hauling compressors or other heavy equipment, crossing rough terrain, carrying supplies and gear that handymen need to answer a job. Think about it…what would we do if these vehicles were not available?

SUVs: Protecting the Most Precious Cargo - You and Your Family
While exploring the outdoors, you and your passengers are the most precious cargo onboard. SUVs provide excellent safety for traveling to the places where priceless memories are made with family and friends. On-road crash data collected by insurance companies show that larger SUVs are among the safest vehicles on the road. According to a recent study by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the implementation of more basic safety measures in SUVs explains the increased safety over the past decade: better vehicle design, improved seat-belt use, and half of all registered cars now equipped with driver air bags, compared with 3% in 1990.
Simply owning a safe vehicle is not enough. It's equally important to know the vehicle, one's own driving skill level and some common sense safety. Make sure you and all your passengers use safety belts or appropriate child safety seats on each and every trip.
