We need your help in telling real-life stories of how SUVs are used and enjoyed by real Americans. How do you feel about your SUV, van, or pick-up? Have you had an experience or a crash where it saved your life or prevented major injury? If you would be interested in sharing your story with our website visitors please let us know by e-mailing your opinions or stories to info@suvoa.com along with photographs, if available. Be assured, your privacy is of paramount importance to us. We would not release ANY of your personal information on our website - just your story, first name and city and state. Listed below are stories that were sent in by fellow SUVOA members. San Diego, CA Back in 1967 while I was just getting started in Junior College in CA, I was driving back and forth to classes on a stretch of road that had a pretty wide open intersection that was due for a traffic light. It was so wide (4 lanes one way- wide side street entrances) that it was understood that a vehicle coming from either side, crossing traffic, would have to stop in the middle at the island in order to make it across because the flow of traffic was so great. <... > more (City and State withheld) One day my mother had to use my '91 Suburban. When my mother stopped at a red light the driver of another vehicle was speeding down the road she was on and hit the right rear part of my truck. The only thing that happened to my truck was that the tail lens shattered & the bumper was slightly bent, but for the other vehicle, the whole quarter front section was gone. If my mother had used her Saturn SL that day she would have been launched right into either the intersectio... > more San Diego, CA About 3 years ago my uncle was coming home from work. He works in an unnamed hotel & resort. He was on my cousin's full size F-150 Crew Cab truck. He was on the freeway when his F-150 went head on with another vehicle of mid size. The truck had a giant dent and was pretty banged up, but the truck managed to still move and my uncle drove it home. My uncle had minor bruises, but nothing that kept him from going to work next day. Had he been in a small Honda, he would be in... > more Sacramento, CA Dear SUVOA Staff, San Antonio, TX We are retired senior citizens and have a 1999 Chevrolet SUV and there isn't any way we could do without it. We need it to take all of our crafts to the crafts shows, which help us to supplement our social security income. We pack it with tables, canopies, chairs, and with all of our craft boxes and I mean it is loaded as much as we can find any space in it for our items. We have had SUVs for several years as we have so many grandchildren and ... > more (City and State withheld) I was involved in a accident about a year and a half ago. I was coming back from a big interview (tired and groggy) and all of the sudden I noticed that the traffic in front of me was at a dead stop about 15 feet ahead of me. My 97 Tahoe was traveling at about 55 MPH when I struck 4 other vehicles, which again were at a dead stop. Seriously I do not remember being jerked or thrown violently, I never even touched the air bag except for my right forearm, which got a very m... > more Texas I bought my first new 4WD Explorer in 1997, a super, stable machine. I bought my second new 4WD Explorer in 2003, and it is even better than the first one. I have driven about 750,000 miles in my lifetime, and have owned about a dozen cars, with none more stable or reliable than my Ford Explorer.... > more Oroville, CA When we were younger, and our children were growing up, I don't know what we would have done for transportation had we not owned first, our Buick station wagon, and later, our 3/4 T Chevy van. Four kids and 2 adults simply don't fit in today's regular sized cars. Especially if one requires a child safety seat. Doesn't anyone care about America's larger families any more? In addition, we were able to travel the U.S. with our travel trailer, which was way too big for t... > more Belleplain, NJ I own a 2002 Ford F-150 -The only life I wish to live is the outdoor-active life: hunting, fishing, and camping. I use my truck to trailer my 12ft boat for both fresh and saltwater fishing trips spring, summer, and fall, and duck hunting in the winter. When I use my sneakbox for ducking, I just haul it in the bed of the pickup: it darn-sure wouldn't fit in the trunk of any car ever built. On out of state trips to Cowboy Action Shooting matches, of which I make at least a... > more |
